제 4회 RUMI FORUM 특강

주제 : “왜 대화를 해야 하는가?”

주변사람들로부터 시작하여 지역과 지역, 나라와 나라, 또 그 관계를 넘어서 문명간에는 수많은 문제가 일어난다. 특히 서로간에 소통의 효율적인 방법을 찾지 못한 오해와 갈등의 문제는 과거부터 지금까지도 이어져 오고 있다.
자페르 교수는 개인으로부터 시작하여 문명간에 이르기까지 효율적인 소통을 통해 왜 대화를 해야 하는지 미국에서의 경험을 바탕으로 강의할 예정이며 그 외에도 미국 내에서 대화와 소통을 중심으로 활동중인 여러 기관을 소개한다.


강사소개 :

자페르 박사는 화학자 이지만 미국유학시절에 문화, 문명간의 교류를 중심으로 많은 활동을 한 사람이기도 하다. 미국내에서 루미포럼, 문명간 교류, 병리단체들의 각종 국제 세미나 및 컨퍼런스의 자문관이기도 했다.

Dr. Cafer T. Yavuz received his B.S. degree from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. He completed the 4 year program in only 3 years being the first in the honor program's and second in the Chemistry department's 40 year old history. When he was in high school, he attended the 29th and 30th International Chemistry Olympiads representing Turkey twice and got a silver and a bronze medal in Canada and Australia, respectively. He was admitted to Rice University in 2001 with Welch scholarship and received his Master's and Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Vicki L. Colvin. His research focused on production of magnetic nanocrystals and their use in arsenic removal. His paper in Science magazine received Forbes magazine's "Top 5 nanotech breakthroughs of 2006" honor as well as 80+ different news coverage in media outlets such as New York Times, BBC, Houston Chronicle and The Guardian. His recent work was selected among the "Six Ideas That Will Change The World" by the Esquire Magazine (December 2007). He worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara with Dr. Galen Stucky working on CO2 sequestration, conversion and co-activation with methane (CH4) until his appointment as an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Energy, Environment, Water and Sustainability (EEWS), KAIST, South Korea on June 1st of 2010.
